11 Tauhou Place, Waikanae, Kapiti Coast, Wellington, 5036, New Zealand

This truly stunning home is so spectacular it could be Waikanae’s own botanical gardens. The large, lush section nestles at the end of a quiet cul de sac, surrounded by the hills of the Hemi Matenga Reserve and echoes with birdsong. The current owners have lavished their love and attention inside and out since the property was built around 8 years ago, and their attention to detail is clear to see everywhere you look.

With a modern layout, all the living spaces have floor-to-ceiling doors to the patio. The first is a large lounge with a powerful log burner and great views on all sides, next there’s a generous dining area leading on to the kitchen and family lounge. Off to the side of the kitchen is a partially open space that’s given over to a study.

Two bedrooms are double-sized, while the master is a king-size room with a huge walk-in dressing area and ensuite bathroom. Through the hallway, there’s ample storage, as well as another bathroom. The internal access double garage, which has the laundry area, and sliding doors that lead to the wraparound pathway which leads through a gate to the expansive gardens.

These are just as well-tended and thoughtfully put together as the inside of the house. There’s masses of lawn, a fantastic array of trees and plants, and a great selection of mature fruit trees, a large veggie patch and even a chicken coup. If you’ve got green fingers and are keen to become a little more self-sufficient, everything here is well-established for you to make the most of.

All in all this is a pretty breathtaking place – it’s superbly well cared for, in a beautiful location, close to the trains station, shops and all the best bits of Waikanae – though that all seems a million miles away when you’re surrounded by this haven of nature and beauty.
