While true to the character of a large cottage, this three-level home forms quite the functional family environment with a European feel beholden by deepening scenery. Socialising is done in the openness of the substantial living, dining, and kitchen, where sliders open onto the deck and outlooks span the farmland and beach – golden hours here are spectacular.
Loft-like ceilings feature in the sunny bedrooms, of which two share a balcony and vistas. A study area, laundry, an additional WC, and a carport with extra garaging maintain practicality. Working from home is a tempting option.
It’s easy to while away a day with the birdsong in the garden and bush backdrop, but with outdoor adventure calling, there are never enough hours to take it all in. Take for instance the many Hillary Tracks to explore, Cornwallis or Kaitarakihi beach to dip in, the Huia Dam walks to scale, Little Huia and Fosters Bay for boat launching or drop the kayak in across the road – recreation is at every turn. The famous Alfred’s Huia Store serves the best fish and chips, and the pooch is spoilt with a dog beach at Kakamatua.
